@Vicki Takacs I had a rescue horse in Tenn. I was told the grass has no nutrients. It is a beautiful green color and worth zip in terms of nutrition. I hear the fruits have a glaze put on them. I do not have 1st hand knowledge. All I know is that I have saved a few horses with my research and my 1st hand knowledge with colic. I even saved a vets horse. I used acupressure. These horses need daily treatment plans. It is not difficult a person just has to know what to do. Over worming causes colic. People worm like crazy to prevent colic. It does not make sense. The vets make out but not the horses or the owners. I cannot get the same benefits with magnesium citrate. I go to the store and buy whatever. Right now it has magnesium, calcium, and zinc plus D3. The magnesium prevents headaches. I really think with all the chemical sprays and GMOs we have a compromised food system. Per my Nutrition course in college (A grade) we should not have supplementation because the food choices should meet our nutritional needs. The Krebs cycle is very important. I use it to chart the supplements I need to help me out.

@Silky I think lack of minerals and vitamins in the food is affecting everyone and animals too here in America. I don’t understand how fruit and vegetables can grow and look alright yet be lacking in these things. You would think it would look too pale or tiny or something, but apparently not. What kind of magnesium do you take? I take magnesium oxide but think it should be the citrate kind. You should write a book on colic in horses, maybe a pamphlet. People don’t seem o have the attention span for a book any more. I had it as a baby and damn near died.

I just wonder how healthy dry cat food, which is full of corn, is for our cats, as well. This toxin is still a toxin, regardless of who eats it, I would think, even though a cat may not die from it. I have noticed that any time I give my cats Meow Mix, they get UTI's. My son said his cat had a UTI and I asked him if he fed it Meow Mix. He walked in the other room to check (his wife buys the food) and he said that was the food they were feeding. It could be a coincidence, but this has happened to me more than once. And I don't think it ends with that brand, as most dry cat food has that "yeasty" smell. Getting rid of all grains in pet food has to be a better choice.

The only part of corn we can process is the inner mozt part of the corn. Thats why your poop has specks of corn in it when you eat it as far as a dog food or animal food is concerned most pelletized grain foods consist of crushed corn to make it more digestible

It took me a long time and trial and error with my cats. One was allergic to chicken, and finding a brand without chicken was hard but I did it. But then it only mildly resolved the issue so I suspected that it was something else in the food and began looking for a food that didn't use a science experiment ingredient list. I landed finally, on Open Farm. 1000% healthy cats, happy cats, not overly expensive, convenience of dry food that they actually enjoy! It shouldn't be this difficult. But the big corporations have gotten away with cutting corners because there just weren't enough healthy convenient options.

If I had known years ago what I now no would have feed my dogs a raw diet or cooked them there food. I did cook them food before and they loved it felt good about what they were eating. Did ground meats chicken & beef added some carrot & peas with rice or eggs figured no way could it be worse than over processed dog mush made into pellets YUCK same with cat food might as well feed them tuna the packaged pet stuff cost more than a can of human grade fish

I would love for you to look at the recipe I make for my GSD. I started doing it due to cost and all of the recalls. I can feed her human grade food for a lot less, and I know what goes into it. I will now after seeing this get her a different veggie mix that does not have corn. It has green beans, peas, carrots and corn. Something I can easily switch out in the recipe. It has 6 cups of this mix per 30+ cups of finished food. Plus I add a powdered supplement to each meal.

I just had to put my yorkie down less then 3 weeks ago. She was having some stomach issues so I started trying out different foods on her. She was a vibrant healthy dog. She just got to where she couldn't eat but still drinking. I figured that if she was drinking then she was still fighting. I was force feeding her broth and I continued this for 2 weeks until she stopped drinking. I finally had to have her put to sleep because I couldn't watch her suffer any more. It made me go through every emotion including guilt. I had her for 13 years and she helped me when I had a seizures.

These companies that make dog and cat food are the root of many health problems. They add fillers such as "animal digest," corn gluten and wheat gluten. "Digest" means something that has went through a digestive system. They are putting waste from another animal into the pet food and charging consumers premium prices for waste. Then our pets get sick with cancer's and other ailments that mimics human diseases. We wind up at the Veterinarian's office where we pay exorbitant prices to make our pets well. It's cyclical and these so called pet food companies should be put out of business and sued for selling us crap to feed our fur babies. I read the ingredients before I buy. The 1st ingredient should always be meat or chicken. Most of the "glutens" are wheat or corn and they cause major allergies in dogs and cats.

The Hunters Special was a food we fed for a short time (about 4 or 5 bags) because our regular brand was behind on production due to the virus. It killed 7 of my Siberian Huskies. We have a necropsy report for one of our girls stating the cause of death as Aflatoxicosis from the dog food.. We (my veterinarian and I) reported to Sunshine Mills and the FDA. Within 48 hrs. they expanded the recall from the original 3 brands to include 8 more, now they've recalled all of these brands and are still claiming no animals have been harmed.

Avoid all the problems with commercial kibble...COOK FOR YOUR DOGGOS and season for yourself!!! Be aware of whay your furbabies are eating...kibble wasn't available until the 1940's as a convenience...my girl used to nibble on her kibble and last year was treated for bladder stones so we have the moist prescription kibble that I buy in small quantities that seem to last her 4-6 months for ab 8lb bag which is great for my once a day eater... my girl eats 2 chickens every 5ish days and if it's enough for me it's good for her too😉👍

So I’ve watched you’re video about possession aggression and this is a question about that. I have a poodle that can be very aggressive with toys especially. If he sees someone do something he doesn’t want when he has for example waking past him or opening/closing doors he will attack such object or person. He will not get distracted by anything either so I cannot bribe him. And if I somehow get said object reward him and give it back he does the same thing.Keep in mind he will attack things 15ft or more away from him and he sits around doors a lot and If I try to go through that door he attacks the door me or both. Please help thank you!

On Thursday she threw up grass and yesterday i gave her a small bit of hydrogen peroxide and she threw up grass and i think meat? I went to the emergency vet on friday, but they only gave us a injection for stomach pain that wears off in 24 hours it didnt do much. I pretty much wasted $250 on an injection that didnt help much😔 i really need help i saw that maybe its like a cement wall in the intestines which blocks them from pooping. I might give her mineral oil later so she can maybe poop incase shes constipated because she hasent gone

Hi, most likely now. She's just dealing with the side effects of an upset stomach. I would start by offering her chamomile or peppermint tea.

@Veterinary Secrets may I ask if it would be possible to adress you with a skin issue related topic. I have gone tonfive different veterinary clinics each has insisted on big expensive allergy investigations, found nothing neither of them. Then as I tried to tell them from the start i think its a infestation, they have after scraping andblood test and 3verything else they could think of given me five definite diagnoses, and five spot on treatments all making my dog sick. Every “protocol of sanitation “ has been followed, and not one helped a bit. So all my savings are gone and it is still a issue. And i have four dogs (two really old 13 years and two 8 year olds) I am alway# willing to bet my life on that just by seeing the images, and the specifics o& this you will most likely know what it is.and perhaps you know of a treatment tha5 doesnt make 5em sick.. Would it be possible? Email?

Veterinary Secrets im not asking for a one on one consultation i understand its impossible but I think I am not the only one with this issue, so if you see it you can perhaps help not just me but also others who has this issue. Now its a even worse situation because the oldest one lost his eyesight due to these, and if I go to the vet with him now its a “death sentence” since they think a blind dog cant have any life quality. I think they are wrong. Indoors he plays and does like he always has you wouldn’t know he cant see. I admit to spoiling him with extra attention and fussing about but I think thats not suffering either. When we go out he is a bit insecure so i caarry him to his spot, but after that he has his buddy who is the same age he waits until he is done and comes and then he walks with him on his side and you woukdnt know he is blind then either. I make sure he gets to the waterbowl (if he wakes up and is thirsty) he learned swiftly to poke his nose to my cheek and then he does a smacking sound its his signal that he wants water. That is the only change because before he jumped up and took the stairs down but I taught him not to do so now since he might miss. If he is about to go bump into something I just say :” careful” and he stops and takes it slower. But unfortunately it doesn’t matter here they always force the issue: blind dog=always put down. And there is a additional reason. Here all the major clinics have made a deal with the insurance companies so they only get half of the bill compensated by them. But since no veterinary insurance covers anything revolving teeth so if the dog goes in for a infected set of anal glands they always find something teeth related or even say its because of that (not joking, they have actually done that to a elderly man and he didn’t know so he believed them). If there is a teeth issue as well then that means the insurance doesn’t pay anything and the owner have to pay everything. They have even tried that one claiming he needed major teeth surgery and that that was the issue. Frankly I went furious, because he had to get almost all his teeth operated out after he was attacked by a very dangerous pit-collie mix my hand that I held on his head trying to whisk him away needed over 200 stitches, and three fingers wont work well ever again, but what was important, it saved his life, it was just the teeth that got broken. So their claim on the he needed a major tooth operation (normally it means tartar removal heavy style, extraction of 4-9 teeth, root canal in at least two more and then cleaning everything, its done with narcosis and it means post op care also, price is about 10-12000$ minimum..and he has one molar, its squeaky clean, and four small front row teeth looks like rice white and clean no tartar).. but it is the same as they always do.. That old man with the dog with infected anal glands it costed him 12000 $ and the anal glands were not even emptied, they didnt give antibiotic, so the anal sack had burst during operation, and they failed to notice the dog died of sepsis a few days later. And he was devastated. So please understand its not only for me I ask, but also for others, and I think that this might be very helpful for many people.

We feed our own food... I have been making our own dog food for years. It is whole meats, eggs, veggies and nutritional supplement. Sometimes they get carrrots and apples and peanut butter for treats My dog can not eat corn at all. She has an allergic reaction. My girl snuck a corn chip... and was sick for two day afterwards. She also has reactions to any glutens. We just do not feed grains to the pups.

I feed my two pups Hills Science diet which is not super cheap and I just looked and whole grain corn is the 5th ingredient:/ but my vet also told me grain free dog food is also causing health problems 🤷🏻‍♀️ not sure what to feed my pups now??

High in general I don't find Science Diet to be very good quality food. Consider making some of your dog's food at home. Consider feeding Raw. And if you are feeding kibble. Ensure that it is a natural organic non corn-based kibble.

Ask WHERE your Vet got his education, many places subsidize their schooling and they have NO knowledge on quality food, but do learn how to keep their business profitable. Meaning they are biased, and want you coming BACK to the practice. Science diet is not a healthy dog food. Check out dogfoodadvisor.com an independent look at dog foods and their benefit.

My vet recommended Pedigree dry dog food many years ago and I've given it to all of my dobermans with good results. My current dog will be 14 in March. I moisten his food with hot water and let it get soft and cool to warm before I give it to him. I think people should avoid the so-called 'cheaper' dog foods and get their 'best friends' a good name brand food instead...even if they can't afford to give them a high meat content gourmet brand. They can always make up for this by giving their dog marrow bones, meat scraps leftovers from dinner and fruits and veggies that they will buy for themselves.

@Veterinary Secrets The first dobie puppy that I got from a shelter had some medical problems. She was a 'bleeder' and had skin and stomach issues, so I did start her off on various specialty dog foods that brought tears to my eyes when I paid for them, but her stomach issues didn't go away, which made me ask my vet for advice on what I should feed her. He recommended to start her off on the dry Pedigree puppy and told me that it was important for me to moisten it with hot water before I gave it to her. Her stomach issues cleared up and I slowly added healthy human foods to her meals. So she also got whatever my mom and I had for dinner...meat, veggies and fruit...and a couple of eggs fried in butter twice a week, which made her coat nice and shiny. I kept her on the Pedigree adult as she got older. She lived to be 14, which was great, considering the poor start that she had as a puppy. Our next rescue was an older blue dobie with a hereditary skin condition. She was around 10 years old when we got her and we had her for four years until her skin condition and arthritis made it impossible for her to enjoy her life any longer. No dog food was gonna help her. The next two dobies that I got were bought from home breeders as puppies. They also got the Pedigree and human food. The female lived to be over 14 years old and the male that I have now will be 14 in March...and is still as active as he was when he was a puppy. My vet told me a long time ago that it was also very important to not overfeed your pets. He said that was the number one cause of illness and death...just like in humans. Living alone and being on a fixed income, I can't afford to buy my dog gourmet food, but I can afford to buy a little more of my food and share it with him. But I never bought any bargain brands or cheap treats for my dogs, either. I try to do the best that I can with the money that I have.

@JohnnyBGood11 Being a senior on a fixed income, I can't afford to spend $50. on a 25 lb. bag of dog food for a large dog. So I followed my vet's advice and have used the Pedigree, moistened with hot water, twice a day on the four dobies that I've had over time. They all have lived to 14 years and have not had any major health issues or stomach problems over their lives. But I also added meat, eggs, butter, fruits and veggies to their diet, since I've always shared my meals with them.

Hi, my personal opinion is Pedigree is not a good quality dog food and better to avoid. As you've had good results with feeding the food mean that's fortunate. I would encourage you to look at a better quality brand.

I have a Doberman and he is at 4 years old now, and I have always feed him Blue wilderness grain free dog food it runs about 44 to 52 dollars for a 24 pound bag, compared to the huge bags they sell sell at wal mart the junk dog food 50 pounds for 25 bucks..his coat shines and people tell me that all the time...he eats better than me...but he gets 2 to 3 walks a day and one of the walks I take him to large areas and let him run and he loves that.

I discussed feeding my dog raw keto and going grain-free the last time I had my dog in for a visit to the vet. The assistant who was getting his weight & etc. told me it was a bad idea to go grain-free; no dog in the wild is grain-free because they eat animals who are eating grains, therefore they eat grains. I asked him what grains heʻs ever seen a dog eat: corn? Wheat? Oats? What wild animals do dogs in the wild eat? What do wild animals in the wild eat? Iʻve never seen wild animals feasting on cornfields. When I questioned the vet assistant all he could do was tell me thatʻs what heʻd been told at the seminar heʻd just recently attended -- and he believed this because it came from Some Expert. This happened last July when I was still giving my dog one of Taste of the Wild grain-free kibble products. Now Iʻm making all of his food myself and going totally grain-free. Iʻve been grain-free myself for 3 1/2 years now. Best thing ever! And Iʻm looking for a new vet.

Hi Susan. That is the generally accepted Veterinary wisdom. It's completely fine and encouraged to feed carbohydrates to your dogs. I personally feel and see that dogs that eat less to no carbohydrates and primarily animal protein are the healthiest.

Last month I bought 5 50lb bags of kibbles n bits beasto from chewy. All my fosters were vomiting. My neighbor bought a 50lb bag of regular kibbles n bits it contained maggots in the entire bag. This bag came from tractor supply. I changed brands this month. Having 16 dogs sick at once was no fun. Chewy refunded me for every bag. They are awesome. I did report this to the proper peeps.

My ex was a farmer . When he took corn that had been in the grain silo drying to sale it always had aflatoxin . It was not good enough for human consumption if the toxins were too high. It was used for animals food. So human foods do have some toxins. This lead me to wonder if some people who have reactions to some foods might be reacting to the toxins from grains. Our food as it goes through the digestive system might respond to toxin and make us seem allergic to the food. Just a thought. Some people can not eat shell fish that might be high in bacteria. Some react to skin products. I have dogs with yeast problems. Not easy to treat I'm trying. 🐶🐕🐶

Corn is added because it's inexpensive. The best way to support the liver is with a easy to digest food. And consider adding in milk thistle.
