Which spray-in truck bed liner coating is best? Dupli-Color, Rustoleum, Plastikote, EZ Liner, and Herculiner tested. A bed liner coating is great for all sorts of metal surfaces around the home or shop, not just pick-up truck beds. In this video, I tested several common brands for durability in the cold, hot, resistance to chemicals, impact, scratch resistance and more.

A lot have viewers have requested I provide Amazon affiliate links to help them find the products I test and as a way of supporting the channel through commission. If you purchase a product or service with the links I provide, there is no additional charge to you. Thank you for supporting Project Farm Channel.

It happens all the time and I fail to select the best lineup of brands to test. So, I would greatly appreciate your help. I periodically ask for a vote on which brands to test. The “vote” notification only goes out to those who have both a) subscribed and b) selected the “bell”. irbin.info/both/2rzsm1Qi6N1X-wuOg_p0Ng
By the way, the testing is having a positive impact. In addition to helping viewers select the best products for their needs, product manufacturers are watching these videos. Several manufacturers have informed me that they are working to make their products even better. Thank you very much for supporting the channel by watching the commercials and through Patreon support. www.patreon.com/projectfarm, and I’m looking forward to many more product test reviews in the future. I have done two trucks with the Roll On version of Herculiner, but I always do many many coats. On my ranger i actually used 2 gallons, did the bed and bed rail tops. I waited about 2 hours between coats. Did one gallon one weekend, let it cure a week, then did another gallon a week later. Tho your test here is good it appears you basically just did one spray on coat. Which in my opinion isnt realistic as one coat just isnt enough.

Multiple coats are recommended for some of these products. Also, some of these products are available in brush/roll on kits. I can't speak for the difference between spray and paint on products but I deduce roll would be more durable

I had used the Duplicolor bedliner on the rockers of my Jeep many years ago. It did not do well. I thought maybe my first application wasn't good when some of it started flaking off so I took the time to sand it all down to bare metal and apply a primer and then applied 3 coats. I still had it chip and flake off pretty quickly. Spent a lot of time sanding every last bit of it off, rolled on some Herculiner and never had an issue. Now, rolling the stuff on vs the spray can probably gives a tougher coating but I'd expect a couple spray coats of the Herculiner would have performed very well, too.

Your no-nonsense, straight forward testing is excellent. I've used a lot of your videos to help decide which product to use for a variety of things. Thank you for providing these to us. The one suggestion I would offer, though, is to also add a numeric value to your scores that can be summed up for a total score. For example, A=5 and F=1. Using this method it is easier to immediately see which product does better overall at a glance. Using this method on your chart, Plasticote = 32, EZ-Liner & Rustoleum = 30, Duplicolor = 31 and Herculiner = 28. The A-F grade per category allows people to choose based on individual criteria, but the numeric score provides a "best overall" value. Regardless if you ever use this method, I definitely look forward to future test videos.

By far for the money I wouldn't use any of these product as they are a waste of time and money. If you are going to spend the money I would use Vortex Sprayliners as they are the only professional low pressure spray system in the industry which is 100% repairable if for some reason it does get damaged. Contact them for your local Vortex Dealer at Vortexsprayliners.com or call them direct at 949-770-2316 to get your truck sprayed as well as if you want to purchase the equipment for your area

As a painter skip any 1k products their just snake oil they give to diy guys I wanna see if raptor is as good as linex and some of those other guys but even por40 would be a cheap test and it's 2k (has a hardner component not garbage) and I would even love to see like a nason single stage the ready to shoot stuff you can buy at ncs fairly cheap and it's really good at taking chemical abuse can add plasticisers too and make it flexy gummy whatever. Feel free to ask questions paintings more involved than ppl think sometimes lol.

I installed the duplicolor roll on bed liner in my truck and it held up amazing to all sorts of abuse. These kits really take a long time to fully cure, i am talking a month beofre you really want to put heavy stuff in the bed that could damage it. In my opinion it takes way longer than the time used in thiis video. I know you are just using the manufacture recommendations from the cans. Just feeling my liner as th weeks passed it got harder and harder and harder.

So, I've got to make a comment here because I've seen several simply state "I wouldn't get this because nothing holds up against X professional guys". Professional coatings like Line-X are done in layers. They build it up a lot so that there wouldn't really be a chance that something could reach the metal underneath. Unless of course you're purposefully trying to damage the coating. Most, if not all, of these products would be perfectly fine if layered the way the professional guys do it. I personally think that if a product like Line X were applied in a single layer like these ones, it would be a similar outcome.

I really wouldn't expect any air dried product to be all that durable. You'd have to have a two-part catalyzed product to really attain hardness and chemical resistance. Anything that is air-dried is basically solvent evaporation which means a solvent can redissolve it.

This was a great, new, outstanding idea! One that I would personally show others before they considered choosing a domestic brand for personal use. I’m curious though at what the professionals use at places like Maaco and other bedliner application businesses. There’s one, no idea who makes it, but it feels literally like 100-200 grit sandpaper when you touch it, very rough and it seems like it would damage whatever touches it or scrapes against it. I’ll try doing some research and see if I can pinpoint that particular product. I have a buddy that does auto restorations and damage repairs (bodywork based) and see if he can give me some product info. I do know that some of these products have to be mixed before being utilized by these bedliner companies as they are usually applied using air compressors and specialty air-brushing attachments. But I feel that the grittiness of that aforementioned sand-paper-like product must utilize sand (or something similar) in their mixtures before being applied. As always, Thank you for your dedication and services, both to our country and your viewers/subscribers! EDIT: I’m curious on what the before/after weight was regarding each product and its respected application as professional bedliners can add some weight after being applied and most apply two coats as a baseline procedure

On my 16th year of line-x in my truck only damage was dropping an engine and the crank pulls gouged it. I hear rhino liner is pretty good also. Also soaked oil for about a year in the line -x while I was deployed and it took me about a year of normal washes to get it out after I got back to the states.

After watching this, I am glad my truck bed has an actual plastic liner insert. Also the inserted liner still holds up even when parts of the bed have rusted away.
